Detroit native Eric Thomas is a motivational speaker for a variety of settings. He talks to everyone from young people to corporate audiences and some of his . But Thomas is also well-known for speaking to NBA players and SLAM Magazine recently profiled that aspect of his career:

Daniel Gibson, Cavaliers guard and co-star of a new reality series on BET, said one of the reasons he likes Thomas so much, is because he has a similar story to his.

“I felt like it was one of the better speeches I’ve ever heard. A lot of the troubles and the struggles he went through growing up are things I was accustomed to, so when I hear him say his mentality about being successful, it registers with me, especially coming off an injury.”

Gibson even posted one of ET’s messages in his house: “Be comfortable being uncomfortable.”

“I’m just really there to challenge the players not to get settled. Oftentimes when people achieve a level of greatness and make it into the NBA, they lose hunger and bite. I often say what got you there is not going to keep you there. What got you there is not going to take you to that next level,” Thomas said.

Thomas has an interesting background that he draws on while speaking. You can read more about him on his website.
